font size

Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga has restarted a number of development projects initiated by her previous People's Alliance government but stalledduring the two year ruling of former United Nation Front government, the Presidential Secretariat said in a statement on Tuesday.

Among these projects are several express highways linking capital Colombo with Katunayaka and Anuradhapura in the north as well as the Colombo outer circle.

The United People's Freedom Alliance led by President Kumaratunga has highlighted these projects in its manifesto for April 2 parliamentary elections.

Rural hospitals, schools, rural by-roads, rural power houses, housing schemes and drinking water projects are among other development programs which have to be revived.

President Kumaratunga has urged authorities concerned to submitto her reports within two weeks pertaining to the arrangements forreviving these projects in view of the imminent danger of lapsing foreign aid totaling 32 billion rupees (about 326.53 million US dollars) allocated for these development programs.
