Ministry of Railways of the People's Republic of China (中华人民共和国铁道部)

There are 16 railway bureaus and two railway group companies under the Ministry of Railways.

The ministry's official responsibilities are as follows: formulating development strategies, guidelines, policies, laws and regulations of the railway industry; drawing up and supervising the execution of national railway rules and regulations; working out and directing the implementation of national railway annual plans; taking charge of operation and management of the railway industry; establishing technical policies, standards and managerial regulations, as well as foster and standardize the railway transport market.

The ministry is also responsible for passenger services, development of the rail network and rail infrastructure in China.

铁道部在全国范围内，设16个铁路局，2个铁路公司。

铁道部的主要职责是：拟定铁路行业发展战略、方针、政策和法规，制定国家铁路统一的规章制度并监督执行；编制国家铁路各项年度计划并组织指导实施；负责铁路建设的行业管理；拟定铁路行业技术政策、标准和管理法规；培育和规范铁路运输市场。

铁道部还主要负责旅客服务、铁路基础建设等。
