Climate

Anhui is located in the transitional area between temperate zone and subtropical zone, so the climate here is warm and moist, and the four seasons are distinct. The north of the Huaihe River possesses a half-moist monsoon climate of warm temperate zone while the south of the Huaihe River possesses a subtropical moist monsoon climate. The annual average temperature of the province is 14℃-17℃, the average sunshine lasts 1800-2500 hours, the average frost-free period reaches 200-250 days and the average rainfall remains 800-1800mm per year.

Natural Resources:

Land resources: The land in Anhui Province is very fertile and suitable for various kinds of crops. Grain planting area covers 5.7136 million hectares and effective irrigating area is 3.3024 million hectares.
Water resources: The total water quantity of the whole province is about 78.3 billion cubic meters. There are important irrigation works like Pishihang engineering irrigation, Simashan guiding engineering irrigation and etc.

Resources of the animals and plants: The forest coverage in the whole province is 41,800 square kilometers, covering 12%. There are abundant varieties of plants including more than 300 kinds of woody plants, and more than 2,100 kinds of herb. There are also more than 500 species of animal, including 54 kinds of national key-protected animals, such as the most precious Chinese alligator and white fin globefish.

Mineral resources: Anhui is a large province of mineral resources, with great varieties and abundant reserves. There are 138 kinds of minerals which have been already found, and 71 kinds have been verified the reserves. The potential value of mineral products is near 2,000 billion Yuan. Among them, 38 kinds rank the top 10 in the whole country, and coal, iron, copper, sulphur, and alunite are regarded as the five superior minerals.
