Introduction
The
People's Bank of China (PBC) is the central bank of the People's
Republic of China. It is a department under the State Council with the
power to formulate and implement monetary policy, supervise China’s
financial industry.
The People's Bank of China was established on Dec. 1, 1948. It has the
right to conduct monetary policy and other duties under the direction of
State Council without the interferences of governments at all levels,
social communities and individuals. The Head Office of the People's Bank
of China is based in Beijing. On Aug. 10, 2005 the Shanghai headquarters
of People's Bank of China was established.
The main responsibilities of People's Bank of China are: formulating and
implement monetary policy in accordance with law; issuing the Renminbi
and administering its circulation; regulating financial markets; holding
and manage state foreign exchange reserves, gold reserves and state
treasury; maintaining the smooth function of payment and settlement
systems; make statistics, surveys, analyses and forecasts of the
financial sector; being engaged in international financial activities,
as well as supervising the State Administration of Foreign Exchange.
中国人民银行（简称央行或人行）是中华人民共和国的中央银行，是在国务院领导下制定和实施货币政策、对金融业实施监督管理的宏观调控部门。
于1948年12月1日组成。中国人民银行根据《中华人民共和国中国人民银行法》的规定，在国务院的领导下依法独立执行货币政策，履行职责，开展业务，不受地方政府、各级政府部门、社会团体和个人的干涉。中国人民银行总行位于北京，2005年8月10日在上海设立中国人民银行上海总部。
中国人民银行的主要职责是：依法制定和执行货币政策；发行人民币，管理人民币流通；按照规定审批、监督管理金融机构；按照规定监督管理金融市场；发布有关金融监督管理和业务的命令和规章；持有、管理、经营国家外汇储备、黄金储备；经理国库；维护支付、清算系统的正常运行；负责金融业的统计、调查、分析和预测；作为国家的中央银行，从事有关的国际金融活动。另外，根据国务院规定，管理国家外汇管理局。
