Build new type of Sino-U.S. relations (2)

(People's Daily Online)

16:50, December 04, 2012

First, globalization continues to develop. Many threats to security and existence of human beings have become global issues and need to be solved through cooperation of international community.

Second, China will not pursue expansion of ideology and overturn the existing international system. Currently, as China and U.S. coexist in the same international system, both of them have accepted the same rules. Therefore, neither China nor U.S. will follow the path of U.S.-Soviet relations.

Finally, the world powers will develop in a more balanced way. The rise of developing countries will reshape the international political and economic landscapes. Although traditional powers have strength, their capacity of monopolizing and controlling international affairs has weakened. Emerging powers will enjoy fairer and more reasonable decision-making right and discourse power in the global governance.

Meanwhile, though leaders of both countries have reached a consensus on exploring and building a new type of Sino-U.S. relations, the pessimistic view on the prospect of bilateral relations still bothers the people of two countries. This is mainly because actions of U.S. government are not in accordance with its words, which has intensified the “conflict theory” and the “pessimistic theory” instead.

With determination, courage, patience and wisdom, both China and the United States should build a new type of relationship between great powers on the basis of equality, innovation, mutual trust and taking actions. This is the development direction of Sino-U.S. relations.
