Chinese and U.S. navies conducted joint maritime anti-pirate drill in which they rescued a "hijacked merchant ship" played by the comprehensive supply ship "Weishan Lake" on Aug. 25, 2013. The 14th escort taskforce under the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN) held a joint maritime anti-pirate drill with the guided missile destroyer "Mason" of the U.S. Navy from Aug. 24 to 25, 2013, local time.
