BEIJING, Oct. 3 (People's Daily Online) -- Li Na's bid to claim her first major tournament on home soil remained on course as she progressed to the quarterfinals by edging Wimbledon finalist Sabine Lisicki 7-5, 6-4 in a cool-headed display of efficiency at a packed National Tennis Centre in Beijing Wednesday.
The top Chinese female tennis player broke Lisicki of Germany twice in each set, overcoming seven double-faults and holding off six of eight break chances.
In the quarterfinals, the world No. 5 Li will face off against the seventh- ranked Czech Petra Kvitova, who defeated Italian Sara Errani 6-4, 6-7(7/3), 6-3 in the third-round match yesterday. Li holds a 3-2 record against Kvitova.
