Chinese Premier Meets Macao Chief Executive

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji met Wednesday with Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), who is on an annual duty visit.

Chinese Premier Meets Macao Chief Executive
Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji met Wednesday with Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), who is on an annual duty visit.

Zhu was fully satisfied with the work done by Edmund Ho and the Macao SAR government over the past two years, especially in curtailing the activities of criminal gangs, maintaining social security, improving administrative efficiency and developing the economy.

Zhu said that the central government will continue to support the SAR's economic development and will help plan relevant measures.

The premier stressed it is the central authorities' policy that no firm owned by any company from the Chinese mainland will be permitted to enter a bid for any gambling business in Macao, either directly or indirectly.
