President Jiang Shows Concern Over Volcano Eruption in DRC

Chinese President Jiang Zemin on Monday expressed sympathy with the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) who are battling with the aftermath of a volcano eruption.

Chinese President Jiang Zemin on Monday expressed sympathy with the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) who are battling with the aftermath of a volcano eruption.

In a message to his DRC counterpart, Josef Kabila, Jiang said he was "shocked" to learn that last Wednesday's eruption of the Nyiragongo volcano in the eastern part of the DRC had inflicted heavy casualties and severe damage to neighboring cities and displaced hundreds of thousands of people.

In the message, Jiang expressed sympathy with the DRC people and condolences to the bereft families.

Jiang also said he believed that the DRC people will definitelyovercome the difficulties and bring daily life in the disaster-hitregions back to normal as soon as possible.
