The Third Annual Conference of the Association of Asian Parliaments for Peace (AAPP) will be convoked from April 16 to 19 in Beijing and southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing.

The opening ceremony will be held in Beijing and other proceedings will be moved to Chongqing, said Lu Congmin, deputy secretary-general of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Monday.

Created in September of 1999, the AAPP is the largest inter-parliamentarian organization in Asia with 36 member states and 15 non-member states.

Its 3rd annual conference will feature the theme of "peace and development", Lu said when briefing envoys of Asian member states stationed in Beijing.

At the conference, lawmakers will discuss issues of multi-polarization vs. world peace, economic globalization vs. developing nations, and strengthening international cooperation for the promotion of new international political and economic order.

Nearly 40 countries have responded that they will send delegations to the Beijing-Chongqing meeting, and 30 parliament speakers or vice-speakers will head these delegations.
