A member of China's national advisory body Friday called on governments at all levels to promote the application of information technology in handling government affairs.

Xie Lijuan, member of the Ninth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said more than 220 million government departments throughout the country have offered electronic services via the intranet or Internet over the past few years.

But many of the government websites are poorly interconnected and information posted on the websites is not updated as frequently as it should be, said Xie.

She called for concerted efforts to promote E-governments while raising security awareness against virus and hackers' attacks.
