Any of China's bowlers, amateur or professional alike, now could become a member of the national team as the on-going national team training camp trials here have offered such an opportunity to any that wishes to have a try.

This year's national training camp trials have adopted an entirely new system, which opens the selection for the first time in the national team's history.

Contrary to an expected field of some 60 applicants, the organizers were surprised to see before the start of the trials an entry of 114 players, who had come to the capital from across the country, on their own expenses.

In a country with a history of just a dozen years for the game, the sport has been on a rapid rise. The fact has thus laid down a broad and solid foundation for choosing elite players to represent China in international events, including this year's Asian Games in Pusan, South Korea.

The national trials are to be staged in light of the principle of being "Fair, just and open", according to the organizers. "The national team out of such trials could be justly called the national team," said Sha Mingjian, a former member of the national team.

Each of the participants is due to play 16 games a day for three consecutive days in the trials and the selection shall be done according to the aggregated scores. The national training camp is set to recruit five players for curve-style game and seven hook-game players. The final line-up for the national team shall be picked up from the camp.
