Chinese President Jiang Zemin has met with France's former president, Valery Giscard D'Estaing. Jiang Zemin said that China attaches great importance to its relationship with France.

While extending a welcome to D'Estaing and his party, Jiang said China attaches great importance to its ties with France, and in the current complicated international situation, China and France should strengthen cooperation to make a concerted dedication to world peace, stability and prosperity.

He also expressed appreciation for D'Estaing's contribution to bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

Sino-French trade and economic cooperation has become fruitful and still poses great development potential, Jiang pointed out, saying that he hoped the two sides continue their efforts to elevate the cooperation to a higher level in the new century.

D'Estaing, on his part, said that, with China's entry into the World Trade Organization, more and more French enterprises will come to invest in China, which will further boost bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

D'Estaing is here leading a delegation of French business leaders, who have just attended a Sino-French economic symposium.
