Indonesia will intensify its international political lobbying efforts to pressure Israel to stop its attacks on Palestine, Religious Affairs Minister Said Aqil Husin Al Munawar told reporters in Cirebon, West Java province, on Saturday.

He said the lobbying would be done through organizations such as the United Nations and the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) which was now still chaired by Indonesia.

"On May 5-10 there will be an OIC meeting. As its chairman, I will convey Indonesia's political statement (on the matter)," he was quoted by the Antara News Agency Sunday as saying.

Said Aqil, who had just returned from a World Muslim League conference in Mecca from April 5-10, said the conference had issued a strong statement against the Israeli attacks on Palestine.

He said the conference had also appealed to all Muslims to extend aid such as food and medical supplies to Palestine.

Regarding the country's Islamic organizations' wish to wage a jihad (holy) war in Palestine, Said Aqil said that he did not agree with it.

He said all Muslims should have concerns for Palestine but sending a jihad force there was not necessary.

Therefore, he advised people to trust the government in dealingwith the international issue.
