China Strikes Men's Air Rifle Gold
Chinese shooter Zhang Fu shot down men's air rifle gold of the 2002 International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup held Monday at the Shanghai International Shooting and Archery Complex.

Zhang totaled 701.1 points to beat a field of 82 shooters for the title. His result of 599.0 points in the preliminary round is also the best today.

Zhang, also won a berth of the Athens Olympic Games in 2004, said after winning the second title for the Chinese team today at the World Cup, "Today's competition is hard for me but I am pleased to win a berth in Athens Olympic Games, which means from now on, I will devote myself a hundred percent into the preparation for the Olympics."

Zhang was the champion of the China Ninth National Games but it is his first title honored at an international tournament.

Hungary athlete comes second
Peter Sidi of Hungary, who made an excellent job in the finals with 104.8 points and 596 points in the preliminary round, came second with 700.8 points, only 0.3 points less than the gold medalist.

It only took Peter six shots in the finals to narrow the gap with leading Zhang Fu from 3 points to only 0.9, but at the seventh shot he only got 9.7 and fell behind Zhang by 1.7 points. He scored 10.8, 10.7 and 10.6 in the following shots, but still lost to Zhang's steady performance.

"It is a pity," said Peter, "but the Chinese is the champion and he worth it. The seventh shot is quite bad but the total results is my best final results. I did the same job in the European Championships and I was the winner, but today it is not good enough for the title."

"I hope next time I will do better." said the Hungarian.

The bronze medal went to Austrian Mario Knogler with 595.0 points in preliminary round and 103.4 points in the finals.

Another Chinese shooter Qiu Jian also entered the finals with 596 points, but he only shot off 101.5 points after the final 10 shots and finished seventh.
