Wang Yifu netted the fourth gold medal for China at the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup men's 50 meters free pistol 60 shots finals on Thursday, while French World Cup champion Franck Dumoulin came back from fourth place to finish second.

Wang Yifu, who placed only eighth and last place in the air pistol final on Tuesday, saw the title hope after the preliminary round with 5 points led over the second placed Russian Boris Kokorev.

The bronze medal went to another Russian Vladimir Gontcharov, also the bronze medalist of Tuesday's air pistol, with 664.6 points.

Wang Yifu survived from a poor start in the final, which he shot 9.0 and 8.8 in the first two shot, with an excellent performance in the following shots wherein he shot three 10.6 points in series and a nearly-perfect 10.9 in the ninth shot.

"I felt much pressure because there are many world champions in today's competition." said Wang, "But I am satisfied with the results which is a quit good record for me."

Xu Haifeng, the head coach of Chinese shooting team, said that the title was decided early at the preliminary round, "Wang Yifu scored 571 points at the preliminary round, 5 points more than the second place which is hard to match up in the final 10-shots."

"Wang's performance in the final is good enough. In the international competitions, 98.9 points is a good one." said Xu.

Russian shooter Boris Kokorev, the Atlanta Olympic Champion, finished second before the final with 565 points, but he shot a 7.4 in the sixth shot and was beaten to fourth place by French Franck Dumoulin with two 10.7s and a 10.8.

Dumoulin, the men's air pistol champion on Tuesday, had a 99.6 points in the final, 0.7 points than Wang Yifu, and snatched the silver medal. "The ninth shot is not good with only 7.5 points but I was good in the others." said Dumoulin, "Both my coach and I felt that the second place is OK."
