Japanese FM in Tehran for Talks on Mideast, Ties

Japanese Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi is on a three-day visit to Iran for talks on Tehran-Tokyoties and regional issues, state media reported on Saturday.

Japanese Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi is on a three-day visit to Iran for talks on Tehran-Tokyoties and regional issues, state media reported on Saturday.

Kawaguchi, who arrived here late Friday, is expected to meet senior Iranian officials, including President Mohammad Khatami, hercounterpart Kamal Kharazi and Parliament Speaker Mahdi Karrubi.

The Japanese top diplomat is to discuss Iran's role in helping with the settlement of the Mideast crisis, the process of reconstruction in Afghanistan and issues of mutual interest.

Kawaguchi's visit to Tehran is the last leg of her four-nation tour which has already taken her to the United Kingdom, Belgium andAfghanistan.
