With the recovery of the global economy, chambers of commerce will play a vital role in promoting trade liberalization, US Chamber of Commerce Chairman Steve Van Andel has told Xinhua.

Van Andel, also chairman of US-based Amway Company, made the remarks during the Fourth World Conference of Trade Promotion Organizations.

The US Chamber of Commerce, representing three million US transnational and medium-sized enterprises, put forward suggestions and advice to persuade the US government and legislative organizations to take positive policies, he said.

For instance, he said, in cooperation with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the US Chamber of Commerce launched a program to help medium-sized enterprises find access to the Chinese market.

On US safeguard measures over steel products, he reiterated theimportance of trade promotion organizations, as well as solving trade disputes within the framework of the World Trade Organization.

Disputes were frequent in international trade, and constructivedialogue and consultation on the basis of mutual trust was the right way to solve problems, he said. As an active promoter of free trade, the US Chamber of Commerce demanded all tariff and non-tariff barriers be eliminated, he added.

Van Andel said bilateral trade disputes were inevitable with the expansion of Sino-American trade and investment. Both countries should abide by WTO regulations and international law, solving disputes through WTO mechanisms or negotiations, he said.
