Chinese Naval Cadets Trained in Land Warfare

Over 900 cadets from the Dalian Warship College of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navywere recently sent to the Dalian Field Army College of the PLA for a 30-day land warfare training course.

This training is compulsory for all cadets, to enable them to effectively take part in amphibious battles, according to sources with the Navy college.

Over the past five decades tens of thousands of cadets have graduated from the Naval college, known as "the Cradle of Chinese Navy Officers" .

Its land training course began 12 years ago, said an officer from the training department of the college. In the future, Chinese Navy officers will have to have military skills as well asknowledge of engineering technology. They will also be expected tobecome masters of both maritime and land warfare, he noted.

"Land training has helped improve the overall quality of cadetsand provides good opportunities for the Navy to learn about the skills required in a landing campaign," said Li Hongpeng, a Navy officer.

Over the past five decades, the college has trained over 3,000 "amphibious" officers for the Navy.

The field army college has also begun sending its cadets for training in maritime military skills.
