Homing Pigeons Return to Beijing after 2,000km Flight from South
By Thursday evening, more than 20 homing pigeons had returned to their home nets here, after an arduous fortnight flight of 2,000 kilometers from southern Chinesecity Shenzhen.
By Thursday evening, more than 20 homing pigeons had returned to their home nets in Beijing, after an arduous fortnight flight of 2,000 kilometers from southern Chinesecity Shenzhen.
A yellow-eyed, grey-feathered male pigeon was the fastest out of a total of more than 1,500 pigeons to be back home, after a northward flight of 491 hours across provinces of Guangdong, Hunan,Hubei, Henan and Hebei before reaching in the Chinese capital.
The pigeon, with a ring number of 180777, is raised by Beijing resident Zhang Wenzhong, who is a member of the Beijing Homing Pigeon Association.
A total of 1,588 pigeons were set off on May 13 in Shenzhen, ina ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Beijing association.
