Star Alliance to Admit New Members

Star Alliance, the largest of the world's five alliances of airlines, announced in Shanghai Saturday in the name of its board of directors that it had kicked off the process to admit three new members.

Star Alliance, the largest of the world's five alliances of airlines, announced in Shanghai Saturday in the name of its board of directors that it had kicked off the process to admit three new members.

According to the alliance, Asiana Airlines of the Republic of Korea, LOT Polish Airlines and Spanair of Spain will be admitted within the next six to 12 months.

Star Alliance is currently staging its semiyearly board meeting here, the first time the meeting has been held in Shanghai.

Established in May 1997, Star Alliance currently has 14 members. Its network of airlines covers 729 airports in 124 countries.
