Taking a picture with the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) men is a long-lasting wish for children in Macao, especially when they pass by the camp of the PLA garrison troops in the special administrative region.

Some of them realized their dreams Saturday, this year's International Children's Day.

More than 200 primary school students watched a flag-raising ceremony early in the morning and then a few children even jumped onto tanks, asking their parents to press the camera shutter.

"We will carry out patriotism education of the kind every children's day," a teacher surnamed Lei told Xinhua.

In another event, officials from the civic affairs administration met with some 100 students to hear suggestions from the little Macao residents.

Problems that cannot be solved by parents or teachers might have solutions in this way. The children would not give up the precious chances.

Games, cartoon films, children's books and the Internet surfing will be gifts given by the Macao Museum of Arts for children in the coming three days.

Students from a local painting class will show their works to other children at a hall of the museum.

Government departments have also sponsored a competition on playbill designs among local students, calling for the pupils to " give full play to their wisdom."

"This is not only good for the children themselves, but for Macao's future," an official said.
