China and Bangladesh have made fruitful cooperation in political, economic and cultural fields, said Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian Sunday.

Chi, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, made the remarks in a meeting with Harun Ar-Rashid, chief of Army of Staff of the Bangladesh armed forces.

The friendship between the two countries is deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples, said Chi, noting that the military relationship is an important part of China-Bangladesh relationship.

Together with the Bangladeshi armed forces and people, China iswilling to promote bilateral cooperation in the new century, he said.

On the situation between India and Pakistan, Chi said China hopes that the two sides sit down to negotiate and solve problems rather than resorting to military means or threatening each other with nuclear weapons.

China will dedicate all its efforts to ease tension, he said.

Ar-Rashid spoke highly of the friendly cooperation between the two countries and the two armed forces. The forces will expand exchanges and cooperation on the basis of mutual understanding andtrust, he said.
