Police from Beijing and Wenzhou uncovered a record-breaking forgery case in China recently, according to Sunday's Beijing Youth Daily.

Four forgers had made a 1.6 million RMB (US$ 0.2 million) profit by selling 20,000 fake Beijing World Park entrance tickets over four months.

A woman, who hid 6,800 fake entrance tickets in her luggage, was detained at the Wenzhou airport in South China's Zhejiang province on May 6th. After investigators discovered that the park had not placed orders with any Wenzhou printing factories they promptly caught three other people working at the ticket office of the park.

Beijing World Park, a theme park with miniature scenery from all over the world, was first opened to the public in 1995. The entrance fee is RMB 65 (about US$8), equal to an average Beijinger's daily salary.

The park installed an electric ticket checking system as early as 1996. But, due to the popularity of the park and the many tickets going through the system, the system quickly broke down and manual ticket checking resumed.

Ticket forgery, from train tickets to concert tickets, is quite prevalent in China.
