The 2002 Euro-China Business meeting opened Monday in Macao to offer a helping hand for small and medium-sized companies from China's inland and the European Union to tighten trade ties and expand market.

In the coming three days, business people from various industries and 18 chambers of commerce in the European Union will sit together with their potential partners from more than 200 inland Chinese enterprises, searching for business opportunities, said sponsors of the event.

Their cooperation is expected to cover the sectors of textile, clothing, metallurgy, building materials, information technology, environmental protection and food processing.

The participants have agreed Macao can serve as an intermediaryplatform between the European Union and China, citing the Europeanenterprises are badly in need of the immense labor force and consumer market in China to bring themselves new vigor.

The meeting is sponsored by the Macao Euro-China Entrepreneurs Club (MECEC), a non-official and non-profit-making organization, and has won wide-ranging support from large chambers of commerce in European countries after a similar conference was held here last September.
