PNA Calls on Political Groups to Form Unified National Front

The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) Monday called upon all political groups including Hamas and Islamic Jihad to form a unified Palestinian national leadership.

The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) Monday called upon all political groups including Hamas and Islamic Jihad to form a unified Palestinian national leadership.

The PNA said in a statement that this front will be consisted ofrepresentatives of all the Palestinian political groups, members ofPalestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Palestinian National Council (PNC).

Well-informed Palestinian sources said that this national unified front will be like a shadow government that would help the cabinet of the PNA that Arafat is intending to reshuffle soon in running the Palestinian people's affairs.

"This frame would enable everybody in the Palestinian community to fully participate in carrying the national responsibility to work hard together towards our people's goal for freedom and independence," said the statement.

It added that the national front would enable the cabinet to work full time on major economical, social, medical and humanitarian issues.

The PNA confirmed that municipal, parliamentary and presidentialelections are to be held by the end of the year, adding that it will not exceed January of next year.

"But we ask a major question: How can we have democracy implemented under the tightened siege of the Israeli army that is imposed on our towns, villages and refugee camps and under tanks and helicopters shelling," said the statement.

The PNA called on the international community to send as soon aspossible the international observers to bring security, freedom andprotection to the Palestinian people, and help holding the elections on time.
