Iran Calls on Islamic Nations to Unite Against Israel

Iran on Monday called on Islamic and Arab countries to unite against Israeli suppression of the Palestinian people, the official IRNA news agency reported.

Iran on Monday called on Islamic and Arab countries to unite against Israeli suppression of the Palestinian people, the official IRNA news agency reported.

Iranian President Mohammad Khatami made the call at a meeting with visiting Kuwaiti National Assembly Speaker Jasim Mohmmad al-Kharafi over the latest regional developments.

Khatami told Kharafi that "we are seeking peace in the region, but it must be based on the restoration of the rights of all Palestinians and thus the peace could last long."

"Regional countries can guarantee peace in the region in cooperation with each other and without interfering in each other'saffairs," Khatami said, adding that "security is essential to achieve this and security of regional countries is inter-linked."

On his part, Kharafi also stressed that there is a need of unityamong Islamic countries to support the Palestinian cause.

Kharafi, who arrived here on Saturday as the head of a high-ranking political and parliamentary delegation, conveyed warm greetings of Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmed al-Sabah to Khatami.
