China's Ruling CPC party and the FPI party of the Cote d'Ivoire expressed Tuesday hopes for closer relations in the interest of promoting the traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Both as ruling parties, their strengthening friendly contacts and exchanges of experience are conducive to deepening mutual understanding, building their each own country and boosting bilateral relations, said Wei Jianxing, a senior official of China's CPC.

Wei arrived in Abidjan, the main city in the West African state, on Monday afternoon and held talks later with Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo. On Tuesday, he met with Miaka Ourotto, Secretary-General of the Ivorian Popular Front (FPI). Wei is a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau and a member of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

Wei said during his talks with Ourotto that he was convinced that joint efforts would lift bilateral relations to a new level in the new century.

Ourotto expressed appreciation and respect for China's support and assistance to his country in the past years, noting that his party is looking forward to further exchanges and cooperation with the CPC.

He said he believed closer inter-party relations would also contribute to the traditional friendship between China and Africa.
