Turkey to Purchase AWACS From Boeing Company
Turkey has concluded a 1.1-billion-U.S. dollar deal with Boeing company, one of the world's leading aircraft producer, on purchase of Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft, reported the Anatolian News Agency on Wednesday.

The Turkish Defense Industry Undersecretariat and Boeing representatives signed the agreement in Ankara, under which Turkey will buy four units of 737 type AWACS aircraft but will have the option to increase the number of aircraft to six.
Patrick Gill, Boeing's deputy chairman responsible for the 737 AWACS program, said that they expected the U.S. Congress to approvethe contract by Autumn.
"Our representatives in Washington will present all related documents to the U.S. State Department. We expect the Congress to approve the contract until the recess in September," he said.
The aircraft are expected to be delivered to Turkey in two to three years, while the Turkish companies TAT and Havelsan will contribute to the production of the aircraft.
The Turkish Air Force will be able to monitor military movementsinstantly in its region with these aircraft.
