Pakistan Expels Indian Embassy Staffer

Pakistan on Wednesday expelled Kulwant Singh, an Indian High Commission staffer on spying charges,according to a statement by the Pakistani Foreign Office (FO).

Pakistan on Wednesday expelled Kulwant Singh, an Indian High Commission staffer on spying charges,according to a statement by the Pakistani Foreign Office (FO).

The government has declared Singh "persona non grata on accountof his involvement in activities not compatible with his official status" and told him to leave Pakistan within seven days, the statement said.

Kulwant Singh, an employee of the High Commission of India in Islamabad was apprehended last Saturday while "receiving sensitivedocuments from a Pakistani contact in the Rose and Jasmine Garden,Islamabad."

According to an early statement by the FO, Singh confessed he was a member of the Indian Intelligence Agency and had been working under cover as staff member in the Indian High Commission.
