They made the statement following the arrest of nine men and seizure of soccer betting slips with a face value of some 10 million Hong Kong dollars (1.28 million U.S. dollars).
The operation was revealed at a police news conference Saturday afternoon.
In an overnight operation ending on Saturday morning, a total of 342 officers from the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau (OCTB) and other police departments conducted raids on 12 residential premises throughout Hong Kong.
Superintendent from the OCTB So Kam Sing said nine men, aged between 21 and 36, were arrested, and a stash of soccer betting slips and some other soccer gambling paraphernalia were seized during the operation.
"Some of the arrested persons have been released on bail and some others are expected to be charged later today," he said.
So warned that police will continue to take vigorous actions against illegal soccer bookmaking and gambling activities during the course of the World Cup games.
