Fire in Central Japan Kills 3, Injures 2

Three people died and two were injured early Monday in a fire that gutted their three-story housein Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture in central Japan.

Three people died and two were injured early Monday in a fire that gutted their three-story housein Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture in central Japan.

According to Japanese police sources, the fire broke out at the residence of Yasunobu Katada, 47, at around 2 a.m.(local time).

The three dead persons were identified as Katada's 17-year old son, and Katada's parents at aged of 79 and 77. When the fire broke out, they were all sleeping on the second floor, the police said.

Katada and his wife were on the third floor and jumped from a balcony to the roof of a parking space next to the house, suffering fractures to the ribs, the police said.
