Lennox Lewis said he hoped his crushing win over Mike Tyson would inspire World Cup victory in
Japan
, reports said Monday in London.
Lewis destroyed the former champion, leaving him a bloodied wreck on the canvas at the Pyramid Arena in Memphis.
He pounded his chest and punched the air towards his contingent of supporters who waved Union Jacks and the cross of St George.
And he said: "What has happened this week is an inspiration for the English people to go on and win the World Cup."
Tyson had arrived in Memphis wearing an Argentine football shirt but like England's football enemies he was well beaten.
He landed just 49 on-target punches in the whole fight which Lewis ruthlessly dominated from the second round onwards.
