Senior CPC Official Meets BDP National Chairman

Wei Jianxing, member of the Political Bureau Standing Committee and member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met Monday in Gaborone with Ponatshego Kedikilwe, national chairman of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

Wei Jianxing, member of the Political Bureau Standing Committee and member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met Monday in Gaborone with Ponatshego Kedikilwe, national chairman of the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

Wei said that although China and Botswana are far apart geographically, the people of the two countries have forged a deep abiding friendship through friendly exchanges and reciprocal cooperation.

He noted that despite the changes in the international situation, bilateral relations have maintained a sound development momentum and they have conducted fruitful cooperation in various fields.

The CPC and the BDP, both ruling parties, are shouldering the task of safeguarding national political stability, promoting economic development and improving people's lives.

It is significant for the two parties to maintain close contacts, strengthen cooperation and exchange political experience in a bid to promote the development of their own countries and bilateral relations.

Wei also discussed the political and economic situation in China.

Kedikilwe said his visit is an important symbol displaying the smooth development of relations between the two parties and the two countries.

The BDP admires the great achievements made by Chinese people under the leadership of the CPC, and will enhance exchanges with the CPC and learn from each other, he noted.

Kedikilwe said he is convinced that this visit will further the understanding and friendship between the two parties and people, and promote bilateral reciprocal cooperation in various fields.

Wei also met with Botswana Foreign Minister Mompati Merafhe on Monday morning and spoke of Merafhe's contribution to the smooth development of bilateral relations.

Merafhe expressed his appreciation for China's consistent support for the Botswana people. They said they are convinced that bilateral relations will have more vitality and results in the new century.

Wei also visited a village in the suburban area of Gaborone on Monday afternoon.
