The United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) have agreed in a recent secret meeting in Bangkok on the schedule of three new joint operations to recover remains of U.S. soldiers missing in the Korean War, U.S. sources announced in Bangkok Tuesday.

A statement from the local representative of the U.S. Defense Ministry's Prisoner of War (POW)/ Missing Personnel Office said beginning on July 20, three operations in the DPRK will be conducted by a joint 28-person team each time and each operation is to last about 30 days.

The final repatriation of recovered remains will occur around October 29.

The three-day negotiations here between June 7 and 9 were a continuation of the first meeting on the issue held in Bangkok in January, which ended without any results.

Between 1996 and last year, the U.S. and the DPRK had jointly conducted 22 recovery operations in the DPRK, and recovered remains believed to be those of 152 U.S. soldiers missing in the war half a century ago.

The U.S. claimed that over 8,100 U.S. soldiers are missing in the action from the Korean War.
