Chinese Defense Minister Meets Senior German Naval Officer
China's Defense Minister Chi Haotian met in Beijing on Tuesday with the German Navy Inspector General Hans Lussow.

on Tuesday with the German Navy Inspector General Hans Lussow.
Chi, also vice chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, said that he believed 2002, as the 30th anniversary since China and
Germany
forged diplomatic ties, was animportant year for the two countries to boost bilateral relations and widen mutually beneficial cooperation.
Chi said that Lussow's current visit would improve bilateral military ties, especially the friendly cooperation between the twonavies.
Chi noted that German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder had reiterated recently that the German government would adhere to theOne-China policy and refuse to sell arms to
Taiwan
, and he expressed his appreciation and gratitude for this.
Lussow said his first China visit had impressed him deeply, andhe hoped to further strengthen exchanges and communication betweenthe two defense forces, which would help increase their mutual understanding.
