Chinese Vice-Premier Meets UN Officials in Rome

Chinese Vice-Premier Wen Jiabao met with Jacques Diouf, director-general of the U.N. Food and Agricultural Organization; James Morris, executive director of theWorld Food Program; and Lenart Bage, president of the International Fund for Agriculture Development, respectively on Monday and Tuesday.

Chinese Vice-Premier Wen Jiabao met with Jacques Diouf, director-general of the U.N. Food and Agricultural Organization; James Morris, executive director of theWorld Food Program; and Lenart Bage, president of the International Fund for Agriculture Development, respectively on Monday and Tuesday.

During the meetings, Wen spoke highly of the roles of the threeU.N. bodies in promoting world food production and eliminating poverty and hunger. Wen said that the three bodies enjoy a good reputation in developing countries.

China has been actively cooperating with the three bodies in recent years, he said, extending thanks for the assistance the three bodies have provided when China suffered natural disasters.

Wen and the leaders of the three bodies agreed to expand cooperation and exchanges.

Wen is here attending the World Food Summit at the head of a Chinese delegation.
