A Thai ship collided with a
Singapore
oil tanker on Wednesday, causing a 450-tonne oil spill, port officials said.
The accident, which occurred about 4.5 km south of Singapore around 1.45 am, involved a Thai-registered freighter, the MV Hermion, and a Singapore-registered tanker, Neptank VII, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said in a news release.
The collision ruptured one of Neptank VII's cargo tanks, spilling the marine fuel oil into the sea, the release said.
Marine fuel oil is a low-quality fuel used to power ships.
The port authority said it deployed 12 anti-pollution crafts overnight to clean up the oil spill and that there is no report of any oil hitting any of the islands or mainland Singapore.
No injuries were reported as a result of the collision.
