Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon is prepared to send a representative to secret talks with representatives of the Palestinians in Japan, Wednesday's Ha'aretz,a leading newspaper in Israel, reported.

The report said that Sharon made this decision during his meeting with Japan's Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi before leaving for Washington.

Sources close to Sharon's entourage said his discussions with the Japanese foreign minister, who visited both Israel and Palestine last week, were "positive," the report said.

"During the meeting Kawaguchi proposed hosting a meeting betweenIsraelis and Palestinians, and Sharon accepted so long as the talksare 'informal' and said he would send someone to represent him," the paper wrote.

Japan is now the one of the largest donor nations to the Palestinian National Authority and local observers believe that Japan will be and is able to play a larger role in the peace process in Mideast.
