Sierra Leone President, Chinese Vice-Premier Discuss Bilateral Ties

Sierra Leone President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah and Chinese Vice-Premier Wen Jiabao, both of them are in Rome for the World Food Summit, met on Wednesday and discussed bilateral relations.

Sierra Leone President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah and Chinese Vice-Premier Wen Jiabao, both of them are in Rome for the World Food Summit, met on Wednesday and discussed bilateral relations.

At their meeting, Wen said the relations between the two countries have been growing steadily since they established diplomatic ties more than 30 years ago.

The two countries have trusted and supported each other and worked closely in their efforts to safeguard the rights and interests of the developing countries, he said.

President Kabbah's successful visit to China in 1999 gave freshimpetus to the development of bilateral ties. The Chinese government always values its friendly relations of cooperation with Sierra Leone and is ready to work with the west African country to raise bilateral ties onto a new height in the new century, the vice-premier added.

President Kabbah said the two countries have maintained close friendly ties and fruitful cooperation since they set up diplomatic ties.

Thanking China for its support and help, the president said hiscountry will strive for closer ties of friendship and cooperation with China, a trustworthy friend of Sierra Leone.
