Senior Chinese Party Official Meets Zimbabwean Vice President

Wei Jianxing, a senior official of China's ruling Communist Party of China (CPC), met with Zimbabwean Vice President Joseph Msika on Wednesday in Harare to discuss enhancing inter-party relations as well as cooperation between their two countries.

Wei, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC's Central Committee, exchanged views with Msika on the development of relations between their two parties and two countries, and on other issues of common concern.

Msika is vice president and second secretary of Zimbabwe's ruling party, the Zimbabwe African National Union - Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF).

Wei praised the effort by the people of Zimbabwe under the leadership of President Robert Mugabe and the ZANU-PF to explore a development path suiting the southeast African country's own conditions.

He also cited the achievements the Zimbabwean people made in safeguarding sovereignty, maintaining social stability and promoting economic growth.

During the talks, the senior CPC official expressed his appreciation of Zimbabwe' support for China on such issues as Taiwan and human rights.

Wei said the CPC valued its friendship and cooperation with the ZANU-PF and hoped to strengthen inter-party ties as part of the effort to promote relations between China and Zimbabwe.

For his part, Msika expressed thanks for China's support for Zimbabwe's bid for national independence. He said Zimbabwe treasured its friendship with China, while affirming the Zimbabwean government's efforts in the new century to expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields between the two parties and the two countries.

Wei is also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee. He arrived in the Zimbabwean capital Harare on Tuesday from Botswana.
