China's CPI Drops 1.1 Percent in May
China's consumer price index (CPI)dropped 1.1 percent over one year ago in May, official statistics showed.

China's consumer price index (CPI)dropped 1.1 percent over one year ago in May, official statistics showed.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Thursday that the CPI, one of the standard measures of inflation, dropped 1.4 percent in urban areas year-on-year in May, while the CPI in ruralareas dipped 0.4 percent.
According to NBS figures, 27 of the 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions surveyed saw falls in the CPI in May, ranging from 0.2 to 2.3 percent. The provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions that saw the largest drops were
Guangdong
province, down by 2.3 percent,
Guangxi
Zhuang Autonomous Region, 2.1 percent, and
Beijing
, two percent.
The prices of services rose 1.6 percent year-on-year in May. But prices of consumer goods dropped 1.9 percent, food 1.5 percentand non-food products 0.9 percent.
