East and West to Meet at Trade Fair

An investment and trade fair will be held in Xining, capital of northwest China's Qinghai Province, on July 20-24 to encourage eastern businesses to take part in the economic development in western China.

The fair, jointly sponsored by 15 provinces, municipalities andautonomous regions, and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, is believed to be another move to promote contact between the eastern and western parts of China and the development of western region.

Qinghai has hosted two similar fairs in the last two years.

Activities to be held include a presentation of local major investment projects, the transaction of businesses' property rights, a commodities fair, a high-tech achievements show, an exhibition of real estate projects and recruitment of personnel for the western region.

Organizers hope that the fair will improve cooperation between eastern and western businesses, modernise the old-fashioned industrial structure in the western region, stimulate the development of the western economy keeping a local slant and result in coordinated development between the eastern and western regions.
