US President Meets With Saudi Foreign Minister

U.S. President George W. Bush met with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal on Thursday to exchange ideas on how to move forward the Middle East peace process, the White House said.

U.S. President George W. Bush met with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal on Thursday to exchange ideas on how to move forward the Middle East peace process, the White House said.

The president and the Saudi foreign minister had a 20-minute meeting in the Oval Office and they exchanged "a variety of ideas on how to move forward," White House spokesman Ari Fleischer told reporters.

The Bush administration would continue to listen and consult with its allies in the region on its peace efforts, Fleischer said,giving no specifics of Bush's discussions with the Saudi prince.

"I'll call it a warm visit, a warm meeting," Fleischer said. "The president believes that Saudi Arabia is committed to a meaningful and lasting peace process in the Middle East and that includes providing for security for Israel as well as a hopeful and helpful future for the Palestinian people."

U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell said on Wednesday that theBush administration was considering backing the formation of a Palestinian state even before its borders and other details are agreed on, but he emphasized that the idea was only one of severalstill under review.
