Chinese President Jiang Begins Visit to Iceland
Chinese President Jiang Zemin arrived in Reykjavik Thursday afternoon on a state visit to Iceland, the first by a Chinese head of state.

, the first by a Chinese head of state.
Jiang was greeted at the airport by Icelandic President Olafur Grimsson, who also gave a grand welcome ceremony at the airport.
Jiang said in a written speech that his current visit is intended to increase mutual understanding and friendship, and push forward bilateral relations in the new century.
China and Iceland established full diplomatic relations in 1971.The two countries now have cooperation projects in fishing industry, geothermal power generation and ship building. Jiang said China is satisfied with the cooperation.
During his stay in Iceland, Jiang will hold talks with President Olafur Grimsson and meet Prime Minister David Oddsson to exchange views on a wide range of issues including bilateral relations and international issues of mutual concern.
