Of 220 airplanes owned by the Indonesian Air Force (IAF), only 45 percent are worth flying due to spare part constraints, the Suara Pembaruan Daily reported Friday.

"We must focus on the plane maintenance and spare-part procurement now", said IAF Spokesman Vice Air Marshall Imam Wahyudi.

Earlier last month, the spokesman said that the lacking funds had deterred the Indonesian Air Force from buying new jet fightersor upgrading the old ones.

It was also learnt that the United States has embargoed its military equipment export to Indonesia for alleged human rights violation, causing more troubles to Indonesia since it has one squadron of the U.S.-made F-16 Fighting Falcon.
