Former Argentine soccer star Armando Maradona said on Friday (June 14) in Panama City that he wants to lead the Argentine national team free of charge.

Former Argentine soccer star Armando Maradona said on Friday (June 14) in Panama City that he wants to lead the Argentine national team free of charge.

Maradona, who came to Panama from Cuba at an invitation to participate in the farewell for the Panama's boxing champion Roberto Mano de Piedra Duron. The celebrations originally plannedfor Saturday had been postponed to the next month.

Maradona has planned to travel to Japan this week to watch the Argentine team's matches in the World Cup finals. But the plan was canceled after the team's elimination from the tournament.

Maradona's application for a visa to travel to Japan was first denied because of his drug addiction background. But the Japanesegovernment changed its mind and approved his application.
