Nepalese King Gyanendra will pay a state visit to India from June 23, his first visit abroad since he acceded the throne last June following the Royal Palace massacre.

The Nepalese King, accompanied by Queen Komal Rajya Laxmi, will head a high-power delegation that includes Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Purna Bahadur Khadka.

India is attaching considerable significance to the visit during which the two sides will review broad aspects of bilateral relations and the steps needed to further consolidate them, officials said.

The anti-government insurgency problem is expected to figure prominently in the talks King Gyanendra will have with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and other Indian leaders.

The ongoing campaign against terrorism and the threat posed by the menace to the region are likely to come up during their discussions.

The king's visit comes within three months of the official visit to India by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
