Signs Show Sina.com & Sun-TV Go Different Ways

Daniel Mao, CEO of the Sina.com, indicated as a practitioner in the Internet economy, the Sina.com is striving to make trans-sector operations with the traditional industries. When asked by reporters if that means it will withdraw from the media business, Mao responded the company has no intention to do so.

PRINT DISCUSSION CHINESE SEND TO FRIEND

The Sina.net started operation in the morning of June 14. The company commits to contribute to the informanization construction of enterprises and the government.

At the second seminar on informanization construction of enterprises and the government, held by the Sina.com in the same day, financial informanization, trans-sector operations and the Internet new business opportunities turned out to be hot topics.

During the corresponding period, the Sun-TV Cybernetworks Holding Ltd (Sun-TV) was discussing the cooperative affairs in publishing and sales with German Bertelsmann. The organizational structure of the Sun-TV, supported by the business of TV, publishing and sales, doesn't show any sign that the Sina.com enjoys its partnership.

At the press conference held simultaneously in Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin, the Sina.net announced the Sina.com is conducting research on the digital and financial sale platform, to create a system of combining consultation with services.

Daniel Mao, CEO of the Sina.com, indicated traditional industries are expected to integrate with the Internet during the developing course of the Internet. As a practitioner in the Internet economy, the Sina.com is striving to make trans-sector operations with the traditional industries.

When asked by reporters if that means it will withdraw from the media business, Mao responded the company has no intention to do so, instead it wishes to do it better based on its advantages.

Is it possible for the two sides, the Sina.com and the Sun-TV, to withdraw from their cooperation or sell the other side's shares? Mao said, "It's too early to talk about it. You'd better to wait for announcement", adding another phrase when leaving, "Just wait and see who smiles to the end".

Wu Zheng, director of the Sun-TV, once said at a previous press conference that who smiles to the end, who wins. Mao's words this time are a response to Wu's? It's said the Sina.com once issued a batch of name cards with both crests of the Sina.com and the Sun-TV, but it stopped using soon; and the Sina's senior officials seldom attended the Sun's important events. All those signs show the two sides are seemingly in harmony but actually at variance.
