Iranian President Mohammad Khatami and his visiting Turkish counterpart Ahmet Necdet Sezer held talks behind the closed doors Monday afternoon in Tehran.

The talks started immediately after an official greeting ceremony for Sezer at the Sadabad Palace here, the official IRNA news agency said.

No detail about the talks is available yet, but observers here said that the two presidents are expected to discuss bilateral ties, latest regional developments such as the Iraq and Palestine issues, as well as the reconstruction of Afghanistan.

On Tuesday, Sezer will inaugurate the Turkish Language and Literature Department of the Tehran Allameh Tabataba'ee University.

Sezer, heading a 120-member delegation, arrived here earlier in the day. He is the 10th president of Turkey to visit Iran.
